Masterpieces of Design & Photography Auction Results

The results for last week’s Masterpieces of Design & Photography auction at Christie’s London show that 13 of the 15 photography lots available were sold, with all but 3 prints selling for well over £100,000. 

The highest bid went to Gilbert & George’s ‘Red Morning (Hell)’ work, which sold for £848,750 making it one of the most expensive photographs sold this year.

The second highest bid went to Andreas Gurksy’s ‘May Day IV’ print, which sold for £758,750. Robert Mapplethorpe’s self-portrait came in third with a bid of £548,750.

Other prints to sell included work from Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, and Thomas Struth. Read all the results from this auction here.
