On 8th November, Christie’s Paris completed it’s annual autumn photography auction with over 100 lots from a range of artists such as Richard Avedon, Robert Frank and Peter Lindbergh. It also included fifty photographs from Circles, The Collection of Joanna Vestey, a portfolio of images focusing on ‘the interpretation’ of the circle.

Estimates ranged from €1,000 to €180,000, with the sales total coming in at €1,690,164. The top three most expensive lots were as follows…

In third was Edward Steichen’s Diagram of Doom 2, New York, c.1922 with an estimate of €70,000-€90,000 and a conservative hammer price of €81,900. In second place was Cindy Sherman’s Untitled (134), 1984, which had a pre-auction value of €60,000-€80,000 and earned an impressive sales price of €100,800. Finally, coming in first place, was Helmut Newton’s Untitled (legs), Villa d’Este, Lake Como, 1975 which had a healthy estimate of €120,000-€180,000 and final price tag of €214,200.
