Aperture Auction Results, 2020

Throughout the end of October Christie’s held an online auction for early 2 weeks, in partnership with Aperture, the photography foundation and magazine, to raise funds for the organisation’s operations and activities. It is the second annual Aperture auction, and it brought together affordable works by ‘established and emerging artists’ whose work was donated by galleries, collectors and artists. Estimates ranged from $1,000 to $18,000 and, in total, brought in $236,875.

The highest hammer price went to Arthur Rimbaud in New York (Motorcycle, Pride 79) by David Wojnarowicz, which outperformed its estimate of $12,000-$18,000 by selling for $21,250. The print was number 2 from an edition of 6.

Mum, XV, Newington, London by Zanele Muholi realised a conservative hammer price of $15,000 after an initial estimate of $12,000-$18,000, and Iceberg 8, Disko Bay, Greenland by Lynn Davis brought in a final bid of $11,875, with an original estimate of $8,000-$12,000.
